NJROTC

Welcome to SDHS NJROTC, home of Seahawk Company. Established in 1995 with overwhelming support from the community and WCPS Board of Education, the unit has enjoyed tremendous success in supporting the Decatur Way and preparing young citizens for their future.

The U.S. Congress established JROTC programs in high schools throughout the country in the 1960s with core missions of improving high school graduation rates and developing strong citizenship, leadership, patriotism, and personal responsibility. JROTC programs currently exist in nearly every state, the District of Columbia, U.S. Territories, and DoD schools overseas. SDHS is proud to host one of them.

Curriculum consists of enrollment in Leadership Education (LE 1 through LE 4). In-class content focuses on leadership skills, health and nutrition, self-discipline, and citizenship. Optional Out- of-School Time (OST) activities include athletic competitions, field trips, leadership camps, air rifle, and community service. Completion of at least 3 of these elective courses meets the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) requirement for Career and Technical Education (CTE).

Students who excel in this program will have direct and unique access to college scholarships, community networks, and memories to last a lifetime. Students who pursue military careers will receive advanced promotions, ROTC scholarships, and/or direct nomination to a military service academy.

SDHS NJROTC is a student organization and elective curriculum. Students who participate are in no way affiliated with or obligated to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. SDHS NJROTC does not recruit students to join the military.
